Quarter Horses - Description

Quarter horses are smaller than other horses; they can stand 15 hands tall. They have lean and muscular body and long legs. That allows them to develop a sufficiently high speed. Quarter Horses may have a distinctive prolonged white strip running down the middle of the muzzle and white markings below the hock joints.

There are two types of Quarter Horses - the old 'bulldog' variety (the Foundation Quarter Horse) and the 'Racing Quarter'. Quarter Horses occur in 13 recognized colors. These are sorrel (reddish brown, the most typical variety), bay, black, brown, buckskin, chestnut, dun, red dun, gray, grullo, palomino, red roan and blue roan. There is no white Quarter Horse, only gray, species as some mistakenly view them.

Quarter Horses have clearly contoured head, short muzzle and pointed medium sized ears. Eyes are set wide apart. The neck is medium length and flexible, and it transforms smoothly into sloping shoulder. The back is not very long and the chest is deep and roomy, featuring a springy ribcage. The forelegs are strong and set well apart. The hindquarters are strong and distinctively muscular. The croup is long and sloping.

Quarter Horses, besides their stocky build, possess a kind and poised temper. That makes them good for recreation. They are brilliant show horses. Actually, it is their fine disposition and good manner, which makes a good Quarter Horse in the minds of people. Quarter Horses are popular in America and other parts of the world.
